“When one’s house is ablaze
The vessel taken out
Is the one that is useful,
Not the one left burnt inside.
“So when the world is ablaze
With the fires of aging and death,
One should take out one’s wealth by giving:
What is given is well salvaged.
“What is given yields pleasant fruit,
But not so what is not given.
Thieves take it away, or kings,
It gets burnt by fire or is lost.
“Then in the end one leaves the body
Along with one’s possessions.
Having understood this, the wise person
Should enjoy himself but also give.
Having given and enjoyed as fits his means,
Blameless he goes to the heavenly state.” – SN 1.41
“Ādittasmiṁ agārasmiṁ,
yaṁ nīharati bhājanaṁ;
Taṁ tassa hoti atthāya,
no ca yaṁ tattha ḍayhati.
Evaṁ ādittako loko,
jarāya maraṇena ca;
Nīharetheva dānena,
dinnaṁ hoti sunīhataṁ.
Dinnaṁ sukhaphalaṁ hoti,
nādinnaṁ hoti taṁ tathā;
Corā haranti rājāno,
aggi ḍahati nassati.
Atha antena jahati,
Sarīraṁ sapariggahaṁ;
Etadaññāya medhāvī,
Bhuñjetha ca dadetha ca;
Datvā ca bhutvā ca yathānubhāvaṁ,
Anindito saggamupeti ṭhānan”ti.
“မီးလောင်သော အိမ်၌ အကြင်အိုးခွက်ကို ထုတ်ဆောင်၏၊ ထိုအိုးခွက်သည် ထိုထုတ်ဆောင်သော သူ၏ အကျိုးငှါ ဖြစ်သကဲ့သို့ ထိုမီးလောင်သော အိမ်၌ အကြင် အိုးခွက်ကို မထုတ်ဆောင်၊ (ထိုအိုးခွက်သည်) မီးလောင်ခံရသကဲ့သို့—
ထို့အတူ လောကသည် အိုခြင်းဖြင့်လည်းကောင်း၊ သေခြင်းဖြင့်လည်းကောင်း တပြောင်ပြောင် တောက်လောင်နေ၏၊ ထိုတောက်လောင်နေသော လောကထဲမှ ပေးလှူခြင်းဖြင့် ထုတ်ဆောင်ရ၏၊ ပေးလှူအပ်သော ဒါနသည် ကောင်းစွာ ထုတ် ဆောင်ထားပြီး (ဥစ္စာ) မည်၏။
ပေးလှူမှုသည် ချမ်းသာသော အကျိုးရှိ၏၊ မပေးလှူမှုသည် ချမ်းသာသော အကျိုးမရှိ။ ထိုမပေးလှူဘဲ ထားသော ဥစ္စာကို ခိုးသူတို့သည်လည်းကောင်း၊ မင်းတို့သည်လည်းကောင်း ဆောင်ယူနိုင် ကုန်၏၊ မီးလောင်တတ်၏၊ ပျက်စီးတတ်၏။
ထို့နောက် သေဆုံးသဖြင့် မိမိ သိမ်းဆည်းသော ဥစ္စာနှင့်တကွ မိမိကိုယ်ကို စွန့်ရ၏၊ ပညာရှိသည် ဤသဘောကို သိ၍ သုံးလည်း သုံးဆောင်ရာ၏၊ ပေးလှူလည်း ပေးလှူရာ၏။ ပေးလှူပြီး၍လည်းကောင်း၊ သုံးဆောင်ပြီး၍လည်းကောင်း အလှူ၏ အာနုဘော်အလျောက် အကဲ့ရဲ့ မခံရဘဲ နတ်ပြည်သို့ ရောက်ရ၏”ဟု (လျှောက်၏)။

Vật dụng đem ra ngoài,

Không phải vật bị thiêu.
Cũng vậy trong đời này,
Bị già chết thiêu cháy,
Hãy đem ra, bằng thí,
Vật thí, khéo đem ra.
Có thí, có lạc quả,
Không thí, không như vậy.
Kẻ trộm, vua cướp đoạt,
Lửa thiêu đốt hủy hoại,
Khi giờ cuối cùng đến,
Bỏ thân, bỏ sở hữu.
Kẻ trí, hiểu biết vậy,
Thọ dụng và bố thí,
Thí xong, thọ dụng xong,
Theo lực hành động ấy,
Không bị ai chỉ trích,
Vị ấy được sanh Thiên.”

那是為了你的利益，不［留］在那裡被燃燒。
這樣，當世間被老死燃燒時，
你們就要以布施搶救，所布施的是善被搶救的。
所布施的有樂果，沒布施的不像那樣，
盜賊、國王奪走，火燒掉、遺失。
而最後離開，［留下］遺體、財產，
有智慧者了知這樣後，應該受用並且施與。
如其能力地施與並且受用後，
無過失地往生天界處。」
